The Benefits of Thermowood Cladding

At our park, we are committed to investing in high-quality, sustainable materials that not only look beautiful, but also stand the test of time. That’s why our new lodges feature premium Thermowood cladding — a modern, environmentally conscious alternative to traditional timber cladding.

What is Thermowood?

Thermowood is natural timber that has been enhanced using a specialist heat-treatment process. The wood is heated to extremely high temperatures using only heat and steam — without the need for harsh chemicals or preservatives.

This process improves the timber’s durability, stability, and resistance to the elements, making it an excellent choice for luxury lodge exteriors.

A Natural, Contemporary Appearance

One of the standout qualities of Thermowood is its striking appearance. The heat-treatment process gives the timber a rich, warm tone and attractive grain pattern, creating a contemporary finish that blends beautifully with natural surroundings.

The clean, elegant look of Thermowood helps our lodges feel both modern and in harmony with the landscape.

Improved Durability

Compared with standard timber cladding, Thermowood offers greater resistance to:

  • Moisture and damp conditions
  • Warping and twisting
  • Rot and decay
  • Changes caused by temperature fluctuations

This makes it particularly well suited to the British climate, where buildings are exposed to varying weather conditions throughout the year.

Lower Maintenance

Traditional timber cladding can require frequent treatment and maintenance to keep it looking its best. Thermowood’s enhanced stability and durability help reduce ongoing upkeep, allowing the lodges to maintain their appearance for longer with less maintenance required.

Over time, untreated Thermowood will naturally weather to an attractive silver-grey patina, or it can be treated to preserve its original colour.

Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly

Sustainability is an important consideration in the development of our park. Thermowood is produced using responsibly sourced timber and an environmentally friendly treatment process that uses only heat and steam — with no added chemicals.

As a natural and renewable material, Thermowood supports a more sustainable approach to lodge construction while helping reduce environmental impact.

Enhanced Insulation Properties

The thermal treatment process also improves the wood’s insulation performance. Thermowood has lower thermal conductivity than untreated timber, helping contribute to improved energy efficiency and comfort within the lodges.

Why We Chose Thermowood

There are many exterior cladding options available for modern lodges, including composite materials, render systems, and traditional softwood timber. Each has its own advantages, but we selected Thermowood for our new lodges because it offers an excellent balance of natural appearance, durability, sustainability, and long-term performance.

Unlike untreated softwood cladding, which can require regular maintenance and protective coatings, Thermowood is heat-treated to improve its stability and resistance to moisture and decay.

Compared with composite cladding, Thermowood provides the warmth and character of real timber while maintaining a contemporary finish that complements the natural surroundings of the park.

Render finishes can create a modern appearance, but timber cladding offers a softer, more natural aesthetic that sits comfortably within a countryside environment.

Advances in modern timber technology mean today’s Thermowood products offer significant improvements over traditional softwood cladding systems used historically.

Our aim was to choose a material that combines visual appeal, practical performance, and environmental responsibility — making Thermowood an ideal choice for our latest lodge developments.

Built for Long-Term Quality

By choosing Thermowood cladding, we are investing in materials designed for longevity, performance, and sustainability. It allows us to provide lodges that not only look exceptional today, but continue to perform beautifully for years to come.

The result is a lodge exterior that combines natural beauty, modern style, and practical durability — perfectly suited to luxury holiday living in a countryside setting.
